T-Mobile Charleston Customer Care Center

N. Charleston, SC 208,828 SQ FT

As the negotiated contractor for both the shell conversion and tenant upfit renovation, Frampton Construction worked to transform an existing K-Mart facility into a modernized T-Mobile Customer Care Center that includes a fitness center, a theater room, boardrooms, a cafeteria, and an outdoor employee patio.

This quick-turnaround project got underway in May 2017 and was completed by January 2018. While working through the pre-construction process, the project team created a schedule to expedite long lead items and ensure completion within such a short timeframe. With 1,200 employees handling a large volume of calls 7 days a week, the vast office area and an immense IT network was a large part of the scope. The call center areas required 95,316 square feet of raised access flooring to accommodate all of the low voltage cabling and a back-up generator capable of running the facility at full capacity for up to 30 days was installed.

The completed facility consists of two large open call center areas and a main street thoroughfare stretching the length of the building that is flanked by amenities such as a game room, movie theater, gym, massage area, employee store, and a full-service kitchen and cafeteria. Additional areas include private offices, conference rooms and training rooms, and an outdoor patio & basketball court at the rear of the building.

Phase II Expansion

41,000-square-foot tenant improvement

In 2019, T-Mobile made the decision to occupy the remaining 41,000 square feet of vacant space in their building, and selected Frampton to perform the upfit. The work included adding framing, gypboard walls, acoustical cloud ceilings, rooftop HVAC units, raised access flooring, and new exterior windows. The completed space consists of open and private offices, training rooms, conference rooms, a karaoke lounge, and café.
